My 2008 Nissan titan will not engage in 4x4 high but will engage 4x4 low. There is also a grinding noise when I try 4x4 on the fly. The light comes on and say it is engaged but it doesn't really engage. What up?
There may be a problem with the syncro rings in the 4x4 high section of the box. It may have something to do with you driving technique by not allowing the synchro rings a chance to bring the mating gear up to speed. When the change is required it should be done at a relative low speed wit either a brake in the accelerator pedal ( lifting the foot for a second) or a clutch disengagement (pushing the clutch in and out for a second). This breaks the load on the gear teeth and allows for the change to be completed
