The 5800 scanner does not have a physical lock switch. DO NOT attempt to open the scanner and unlock the hardware. This could be either a hardware failure or software Toggle the lock switch on the scanner leaving the switch in the unlocked (open padlock) position. Ensure you are using the correct power supply for your scanner. If you are using a power supply that has the incorrect DC output, you will get a scanner locked error message. This flatbed scanners has I believe 100-120V AC input and 12V DC output.
Plug the power directly to the wall, not a UPS battery back-up, power strip or surge protector. Power fluctuations from a UPS battery back-up, power strip or surge protector may be causing this error. If all this fails try reinstalling the scanner driver
