My 6 month old HP computer with windows vista has your wd hard drive hooked to it. lately I can not open any file without the computer locking up on me. My HP tech support has said that the wd's working system is fat32 and windows vista is NTSF and will not support it? Is this true? I've been using it up to this time
Computers & Internet - Western Digital - My Book Essential Edition (WDG1U5000N) 500 GB Hard Drive
It's not True.. Windows Vista will detect fat32 system and read the content without any problem.
First you try to connect the WD into different USB port and check. Also check whether your USB drivers have been installed on your system. 2nd Option: Connect the WD and restart the system. 3rd Option: Check whehter the WD has been detected and check whehter the drive letter has been assigned by the system automatically. for this go to disk management and check the same.
