My Admiral Washing machine only runs the hot water (not cold)

I have ensured the cold tap is working... But when I start the washing machine it only uses the hot water. I cannot find a setting on the machine to select hot or cold. I have tried turning off the hot water tap and leaving the cold on. If I do this, then no water comes out at all.
