My AKAI PDP4273M 42" Plasma has thin horizontal lines that flicker across the screen and then the picture jumps and flashes red and green distortions on the screen acts like interfearance of some sort if i turn set off with main power let sit for a few minutes comes back on fine after a few minutes starts jumping again?? Does it also when playing a DVD etc

This sounds like a loose solder joint, or overheated component. I know this may sound like a **** question, but have you tried tapping the TV to see if it goes away? If it does, you will need a tech to re solder the loose component. I have also seen this type of line and color bleed problem, believe it or not from poor cabling or loose connections.
