My Alfa 166 3.0 loses battery charge as if alternator charging insufficiently. Even after long distance drive if driving in town with air con, lights, and wipers on simultaneously for more than 15 minutes wipers will stall suddenly and only come back on after all other elecs turned off for minute. Other times with fan and wipers on, wipers will ignore switch off command. Battery also has to be recharged regularly. Alternator checked by 3 different auto elecs & found OK. Battery checked: OK and to correct spec. Also checked at battery and no stray currents. Please help. Andreas
There is a belt that rolls the alternator and AC compressor belt. This belt sometime get's worn out. This belt makes the alternator not to charge fully if it gets worn out or slacks. When the car engine starts, the belt rotates very fast. And the faster it rotates, the higher the alternator give full charge to the battery and full current to other parts of the car.
So I believe this belt has kind of worn out or slack, there by not making the alternator fully run and the battery will not charge when this happens.
This has happened to me before, this is why I am suspecting this belt. I have forgotten the name of the belt, but I know it make the alternator and Ac compressor run at the same time when you start the engine.
Check this out, as it probably might be the cause of the problem.
