My battery seems to need to be recharged constantly. is this a problem common to the 2005 custom sportster? also, the battery is in a very difficult position to jump off or charge without pulling it from the bike. is there a trick to jumping it or charging it without removing it?

Had the same problem in my four wheeler. checked water level in the battery and it was dry. this was from overcharging. Use distilled water if thats the case for you. Other possibility is that charging system on the bike isnt putting out. Once you get it running, when you rev it up the headlight should get a little brighter. Best way to test is with volt meter, voltage should exceed 13.5 volts, minimum. Probably over 14.
