Even with the error message I had on the screen, I tried taking my temp as normal and that somehow 'reset' the thermometer to the 'settings' mode (it flashed F°), at which point I just opted out of the 'settings' mode and it started to work just fine. Tldr: A simple 'ignore and use as normal' worked for me!

Have u tried replacing the batteries that worked for me
