My calculator periodically will simply die. When I finally get it to come back on I have a message that says Ram Cleared. I can't afford to risk not having my calculator work during a test. Any suggestions?

When the calculator is turned ON, power to refresh the RAM is supplied by the main batteries. However, when it is OFF, the RAM relies on the backup battery to keep itself refreshed.
If you get the RAM CLEARED message whenever you turn calculator ON, it most certainly is due to a depleted backup battery. You will have to replace the backup battery.
To avoid losing anything important from RAM (what do I say, you are already losing the contents of the RAM), make sure that main batteries are still good, then replace the backup battery.
You can verify the state of the main batteries in a battery tester or by connecting the calculator to the computer with TI USB Silver cable and TI Connect software. If you run into problem such as calculator not recognized it is most probably due to weak batteries.
When you connect it to computer try updating the OS if OS version is not 1.19.
