My camera has frozen. the last image is still on the screen the camera won't switch off. It just says: ok next but nothing will work. The only way to clear it seems to be to take the batteries out

Remove the batteries and card...press all the buttons...leave it alone for 20 minutes...insert the card and then the battery...turn it on.
If the camera now turns on, go into the menu and find "reset"...follow the on-screen instructions. When you say you cleared the card, do you mean you formatted it in the camera which is recommended?
