My cell phone has an "sos" in the signal bar.I tried putting it in a regular cell and doing a master reset but it still does the same thing. my sim card works well with a regular cell, but my blackberry is not recognizing my sim card
Let me ask one question so that we can narrow down the measures to be taken. Have you tried another Sim Card on your Cell Phone? If not, please do it now and let me know. It's also possible that there's problem with the voltage of your sim card and your handset, so you need to check the sim card first. If inserting another sim card has the same problem, then the problem is with the handset, must be hardware [i hope you haven't activated flight mode or offline mode from your profile].
To do it yourself, you'll need alcohol/acetone/spirit, a small soft brush, a set of screwdrivers, soldering iron, soldering paste, soldering wire..etc..,. First of all, please, open the battery compartment, remove the battery, sim card, and wet the brush with acetone/alcohol/spirit clean the sim connector thoroughly. After it's dried, insert the sim card, battery... and power on the mobile, and check the status, if the problem persists, you need to open it apart and check the sim card connector on the board. So, I would like to let you know that it's not safe if you are not sure and don't know what is the sim connector, rather I would suggest you to take it to a mobile repairing shop or to a service center and get it repaired. It's also possible that the sim ic is the culprit, not the sim card, but need not to worry, sim ic can be replaced or can be jumpered. It's upto you now, and if you open it apart, clean the sim card connector from the inside and check while you clean step by step, also look for any loosen connector/pin, solder if necessary
Thanks for the information. However, before i proceed to do all of this, let me make sure that u understand completely. After i got the message on my blackberry, i put my sim card into a relative's blackberry and it made their blackberry do the same identical thing. just by putting my sim card into his phone. It does not seem that that would be the case if it was the card connectorThanks for the information. However, before i proceed to do all of this, let me make sure that u understand completely. Most times when a phone displays insert Sim card, it means that either the Sim card is damaged or the Sim tray on the phone that allows the sim card to display on the phone is damaged and will need to be replayed .
To check if the Sim card still works,You can check Sim card with another phone, to confirm if the Sim card is working.
Hi,if after you have tried all i said you should do, and it did not work,That means the phone you are using is not yet accepting Sim card because it is block and it is not yet registered to work with the Sim yet that's why the Sim card can work.
The only way you can use the Sim card o the phone is to Unlock the phone (The same has registering the phone to work with the Sim card).
After you've unlock the phone , the Sim card will now work with phone.

Hi , why the phone is not working with the Sim card is because the Sim card doesn't have access to work with the phone yet.In other to make the phone work with the Sim card, you will need to unlock the phone.Unlocking the phone will make the SOS go out from the phone and no more invalid Sim card.

There could be many reasons for the same. Usually ,it refers to a Bad Sim.However, as your Sim worked well with a regular cell, that eliminate this cause.
Now,left with few more causes :-
1. Is your Phone Locked? Each cell in US / UK is usually allocated for a particular carrier. In case, if you are using the incorrect Sim in your cellphone, it would not work. All locked cellphones would give you this message.
2. Signal - The frequency of every cellphone is different. This message would be there, if the signal is too weak or low. Have you tried to change the settings to manual or auto or try to take this cell to another place and see, if you could see some more signal bars.
3. Firmware problem - Uncommon, but yes, could cause the same effect. You could try to update the firmware and make sure you have the latest version installed.
4. Hardware failure - Possible. Few IC's may blown out that could cause an interruption in electronic signals.
The causes could be many. But, i have already mentioned the main causes with this blackberry cell.
I have an idea. Try some other SIM in your phone. I am sure that would work. If yes, there is an issue with your SIM. I agree that it worked on other cellphone. However, if it does not work on 2 Blackberry's, there is a concern, might be a problem from Service Provider's side.
Let me know,once done.
Hope i helped you.
Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!
