Yes that can be the cause. Another reason can be a blown fuse on the player's power supply itself but lets hope it doesn't go that far. Did you try a different plug point? If yes then try a different cord and see if it resolves the issue and let me know.

Hello. although the power cord or plug could be the problem, an internal problem is much more likely. Call a few tv repair shops and get an estimate for the repair if you bring it into the shop. Then decide whether to put money into it or not. The new tv's are so inexpensive these days, digital, and use much less electricity to operate. j.
