The problem sounds alot like a software conflict no new parts need to be bought for that just think of the last thing you installed in your computer before it started that is most likely your trouble maker. if your computer won't start at all try resetting the bio's by unplugging it then removing the battery from the motherboard waiting ten seconds then reinstalling it. worst case scenario is reinstalling your operating system
Sometimes the power settings are that way. If the machine is idling for say 2 minutes it can be set to power off instead of going into a screen saver mode. I would check those power off power saving settings. But now nothing? Try getting into the bios by pressing its either f2 or f12 f5 something like that depending on your machine if your into the bios you should be in good shape from their you can do hardware tests to see what is failing.
If you can't get into the bios I would at least try your manufactorer support sight as at the back of the cpu their are lights which if something is failing you'll get a beeping sound or a certain light color.
Doubt if you need a new processor or motherboard.
I would start with the power supply. it is likely that the power supply is shot. are u receiving a blue screen or anything? if not, very well could be the power supply.
