Unfortunately certain electronic parts are extremely sensitive to the amount of voltage and amperage that is applied to them. From the sounds of it the adapter that was used was sufficiently over the correct voltage or amperage that certain parts, if not all, have been damaged. At this point, depending on the cost of the unit, you will either have to take into a repair center, or send it to the manufacturer, and have them give you an estimate on whether or not the unit can be repaired, and the cost of the repair. With hourly shop rates being anywhere from $50 to $90 an hour, it may be cheaper to replace the unit.
