Start with the basics. Do you have power at the outlet it is plugged into? If so, check the cord and entry to the unit. Look for a reset or overload button. (most of these unfortunately have some sort of over temperature protection buried inside). Does the on / off switch feel 'funny'. Lastly google the make and model for common faults and remedies. If all else fails have a friendly electrician pull it apart and check.
