My DODGE NITRO 2008 RT, will not shift out of park. what to do?

STARTED MY CAR TODAY, and it will not shift out of park, and the engine light came on. what do i do? what is wrong?

Will the shifter move out of park? If not the cable or linkage is stuck. If shifter moves but car doesn't and engine revs. Transmission is slipping and needs repair. If possible have scanned and get code
