Kenmores are known for this problem. The reverse mechanism needs lubrication (sewing machine oil) and then needs to be worked out. Run without thread. Forward then reverse. It might just need a service
Hey! I think something is wrapped around the reverse mechanism inside the machine, or the gear is broken. Maybe you should open it and try to clean or give some maintenance on your machine:)
