Sounds to me like you may have a screen in the exhaust getting plugged up. Take the muffler off and see if there is a screen between the muffler and the engine. These have a tendency to get carbon covered and will cause the engine to loose power. Also, check all the screws/bolts/nuts holding the carburetor on.
If the screen is plugged you can operate your machine without it. It is a spark arrestor. You should be able to get a replacement at a repair shop very reasonably if you replace.
