Hope this is not too late (or maybe useful to someone else with the same issue). Wife's computer had the same problem - wokring fine, then one dya, we lost the wireless connections. Found out that I had accidentally locked the wireless out with the "fn"-F2 key (looks like a little wireless adapter). Hitting this one more time turned it back on.
You have to go into system utilities when your computer is first turned on. You must hit the F2 button to get into it during those split seconds to get to the bios menus. Once you are there you will be able to enable wireless lan from that menu. Once the computer is up and running though I don't know of a way to get into the bios menu.
I am writing this assuming you are running windows XP
I would try completely uninstalling the driver for it in the add remove programs part of the control panel then re-installing it from scratch along with any utility that it may have with it since some times with some wireless cards you have to actually open the wireless utility that comes with the driver and right click the little icon by the clock and select "enable radio" and that actually turns it on internally and not clicking "enable radio" will leave it in an off state even though it shows up in the device manager as installed and working fine it is really off like you said..
Now I have mostly seen that problem with Toshiba laptops and maybe a few others depending on the type of card they had and I can not guarantee that you need to click enable radio in the utility for yours but it is certainly worth a try.
if you have trouble opening the wireless utility for it or even finding it then go to network connections and right click on your wireless connection and select “view available networks” and when the window pops up click the button on the lower left side that says “change advanced settings” and then when the next window appears go to the “wireless networks” tab at the top and then uncheck the little box that says “let windows configure my wireless networks” then click ok and that should allow the other utility to open or appear down next to the clock and if it does not then look in the start menu for the utility or reboot the computer and it might load automatically since you just disabled the windows one.
If this info is not helpful then please let me know and I will try to help you look deeper into it .
