My filter valve is about 8 years old.(Just FYI) It has been in use for about 3weeks.When the filter is running in filter mode, the backwash line leaks water?? Could it be that it needs a rebuild.Or maybe a good relube of the orings?? Any Ideas Please !! Thanks

For best results, replace the spider gasket in your multi port valve (multi port valve, right?) When selecting a mode, only go in a clock wise direction.
Push Pull valve? I dont thnk so but if it is, does not hurt to lube the "o" rings.
Milleraba, Yes has a multi-port It's A Hayward S166T (Should have included this info in my first post) When you said go in a clockwise motion, does that include going back to filter mode? I am thinking I have been operating this wrong all the time. When I select the backwash I go clockwise, when done I always when backward to the top filter mode.(my bad) Also is the gasket replacement a task for DIY? Thanks very much for the reply.Milleraba, Yes has a multi-port It's A Hayward S166T (Should have included this info in my first post) When you said go in a clockwise motion, does that include going back to filter mode? N E V E R G O B A C K W A R D S is what I learned ... and always do it smoothly, no jerking etc. You can replace this gasket yourself if you are handy with a screw driver ... of course turn the pump OFF (need I say that?) Take pics with your cell phone for your own reference.
When back washing, you should first back wash and when finished, use the next setting (I forget the name on it ... polish or smooth or something similar). For years I never understood what that setting was but I learned it is about 1/2 water to filter and 1/2 to the ? and the purpose is to smooth the disrupted sand on the top of the filter. Then go back to filter mode. Another tip, don't back wash until the pressure goes up 18 to 20 pounds. You should replace the top 1/3 sand about once every 5 or so years. When you shut down in the winter, open the filter and feel the sand. You will be able to tell when it is time. Yes, the sand wears out believe it or not. The pools I operate have push - pull valves. My pools are equipped as follows pool 1 = two 1000# and one 300# sand; pool 2 and pool 3 = one 300# sand each. In a commercial setting, I B/W the big ones every other week or so and the little ones as needed usually two times a week depending on load. My filters run 24/7 and my water looks like it just came out of a 'Britta' filter.
