My friends millermatic 175 mig welder burns way too hot and burns through almost everything. Whether the voltage control is turned all the way down or all the way up, there does not appear to be any difference in the heat setting. We are thinking that maybe the voltage control switch (Potentiometer, part #202663) may be defective. Any help will be appreciated-Thanks!!!
The potentiometer can be checked with a multimeter ohms range. Analogue is best.
I would be surprised if the potentiometer is faulty but you might be lucky. MIG welders rarely use a pot to control the voltage - most often the voltage or power is adjusted in steps by one or more switches and it is the wire speed and current that uses a potentiometer.
