My GE WSXH208A Front Load Washer sounded like it had a pair of shoes in it when I did the wash. It didn't drain, either. When the wash cycle was complete, I checked the drum, and it wobbles freely back and forth, as if there is nothing holding it in anymore. When I turned it, I could hear the sound of metal upon metal! I've had it 6 years almost to the day. The washer and dryer are stacked in a laundry closet, so getting to the back of the machine is going to be a problem. Does anyone know what going on, and how much it's going to cost me?

HI. Your symptoms are a strong indication of shock absorber failure. This balancing assembly is responsible for the leveling, and wobble control of the unit. Unfortunately, the only proper entry way to access the parts will be through the rear of the unit's cabinet. There are also two holding springs that work in conjunction with the leveling shock absorbers to balance out the drum, during operation. If either one of these vital parts fail, The unit's drum will have excessive wobble and it will emit noise as well, while attempting to rotate the drum. The noise is the result of the drum being off-centered, due to shock absorber failure.
Click on the link below to access an exploded diagram of your unit. The diagram will display the entire tub assembly. This will include the balancing assembly as well. The shock absorbers are labeled number 330 on th diagram. The holding springs are labeled number 314 on the diagram. this will help to locate the suspect parts.

Due to the fact that your unit is six years old, I am certain that the leveling shocks are worn, or the mounting assembly may be compromised. Generally, the price tag for this type of repair Will run into the two hundred dollar range. A leveling shock absorber kit should cost around $59. No more than $79, tops. The labor charge should be $135, more or less.
It could be an object like a wire off of a garment between tubs. Or it might be worse. No way to know without checking. Use this service manual to show how: GE FRONT LOAD SERVICE MANUAL

A roper washer needs no fancy detergent, is very forgiving when overloaded, does not need a fancy computer to measure water temp and wash your clothes in record time. All it needs to do is wash your clothes.

HI again. Glad to see that the problem has been solved. Just a side note here, the Frigidaire FAFW3574KW would be a wise choice, in my estimation.
Have a great day:)
