Unless the camera is actually in record mode, your previous video files should be complete on the SD card and should not be affected by removing the battery. The freezing COULD be a result of the SD card itself. Most live video recording devices which use media of this type work best with cards that are rated "Class 4" or higher. (Class refers to the read/write speed of the card; the higher the class, the faster it performs.) The class rating is usually shown inside a small circle printed on the card.
