My stanley tre500 fires four or five staples all at once. Is there an adjustment?

Unbelievable. I just tried what you said, firing multiple times without staples. Initially was still rapid firing, then after about 50 shots, it settled down to single shots. I can't believe this was such an easy fix (whatever fix this is). But also can't believe they sold it this way. I've been struggling with this for years, avoiding using it because of the problem. Looking forward to using it more often.
Same! Avoid using it ANYwhere I don't want to be mutilated... 4 or 5 simultaneously fired staples can cause quite a bit of destruction to wood. I haven't tried the "fix" yet, but certainly will. Mine has been doing this since it was new! Like you I can't believe they SOLD these this way!
Never put wd40 on your air tools. Think about it if you get grease on your hands what’s the best thing to remove the grease? Wd40. It will work for a little while but not long the best thing is 3 in 1 or machine oil. Now as far as it rapid firing it is either in the trigger or the safety mechanism that has to be pressed before it will fire
