DV6 what, there are 2 generations, of PC. the latter one, far far better is ENVY DV6-nnnnn no nnnn stated by you either, off the service tag. NON ENVY DV6 are old and DV6-nnnnn 9 years + old. see this list at HP, DV6 means so little. the service tag tells you what you own.https://support.hp.com/us-en/products/identify?q=dv6&filter=-1&origin=pdp
non -ENVY. MOST DV6 are dead now, due to dead CCFL back lamps.
on all laptops the fan must turn. so that means power lost. the LAPTOP has the old old battery that pops off guess what, that comes off first, they short out this old and overload the VRM inside, so that is test #1 the next, dead RTC coin cell,,,, if you had show full model number not the truncated DV6 id have show the manual and page to read on COIN change out.
That is the 2 top causes. there sure are more, any part in side that shorts out does that same thing. "overloads power regs, VRM" what all techs do , not dead CCFL. we run on AC power only first , no big battery there. you can do that forever btw. run on AC for ever.(only) if the power pack is dead that will fail. 19vdc is good, below say 17vdc is bad.
this pages shows the test , in fact all tests. even the strip down test to find any of 12 modules inside that can in fact short put and kill dead the card house.
The ENVY 2013 PCs are LED, and for Window8 the CCLF old DV make long ago, near or before 2010 are CCFL dogs, lamps burned out. the old DV have this warning in the book Hg. = mercury is in the CCFL and most are dead now.(if not soon)

step #1. remove the old big battery first it just snaps off the bottom. run on AC power pack only. (yes plugged in) in vast cases , this makes it work now . if not say so and we can do step 2.step #1. remove the old big battery first it just snaps off the bottom. run on AC power pack only.
