It sounds like the solenoid switch has collapsed. Sometimes the reset like you did will allow the starter to return for refire when plugged. But as time goes by the spring gets lazy and sticks. To take this all apart is somewhat of a nightmare. So I don't want to suggest a DIY and cause you more stress in hard times. Maybe another refrigertaion engineer would be happy to help out on site. have you tried that option? I am in Oz so I cannot recommend one for you that would be local. But try your pink pages and see if there is a local bloke that is willing to fix it cheapre.
The hum click sound that you are hearing is your Compressor. Ice-O-Matic is well known for there compressors going bad. What they had done was put in compressors that were to small for the size and amount of ice that they were creating. Replacing the compressor on this unit with a service tech is roughly about 200 to 300 dollars depending on where you live. They can have you up and running within that day. My recommendation is to call a Refrigeration company and NOT a Heating and air Conditioning company.
a tec told me it could be a starter relay ,do you know how to test the relay.a tec told me it could be a starter relay ,do you know how to test the relay.
I am not familiar with that one but check the intake, and coils, and clean them ,Make sure the fan for condenser is working also,if it will make ice for a while,it sounds like a heat problem with the condenser.
