My Kia Rio wont start. the battery and alternator are new and I just replaced the starter. Now its making an awful grinding noise when I turn the key when before it did nothing. Whats the problem?
When I replaced the starter I lost a single bolt that holds the filter for the air intake. I'm pretty sure that wouldn't matter, but it's fyi.

For get to put in a shim/plate between the starter and transmission/engine? Could be the old starter chewed up the flywheel.
also the teeth on the old starter look fine.
Kind of like that. But they are thin pieces of metal plate the go between the starter and engine/transmission. You need to check the teeth on the flywheel also. where the starter engages the motor to start.
