It has to do with Ohm rating along with what your power amp specs are. If you are wired to have this dual voice coil speaker for 2 ohms (parallel), then your power amp might not perform, or able to handle the 2 ohm load, and therefore might go into thermal overload/protection. If you are wired to have this dual voice coil speaker for 8 ohms (in series), then your power amp will not put out the wattage it is rated for, or be able to "push" it at all. The higher the ohm load, the less wattage output from amp, especially if the amp is made to work at 2, or 4 ohm load. Check your specs.
