My kid may have plugged in laptop power supply to my 640gb WD MyBook...now I plug in it's own power supply...no power. Can I some how either replace the power module or get the data off the drive?

If the drive electronics weren't also fried, you may be able to remove the drive from the enclosure and install it in an empty external drive case like is done in this YouTube video:

The person that created that video did not mention the make and model number of the replacement enclosure, but you should be able to find on online or at a local computer shop.
