My KitchenAid KSM90 will not turn off. All the speed settings seem to work, it just won't shut off. I have it open, but don't understand how the switch operates such that it turns the mixer off. The mixer goes the same speed in the off position as it does in the lowest position, stir. The speed increases as I would expect it for all other positions. So, the switch seems to work for all positions except for the off position. Is there some kind of adjustment I can make to get the switch to turn off the mixer? Note, the mixer makes a popping noise when I move the switch from off to stir and the white plastic bar moves off the copper bar. When my mixer was working properly, it didn't make this popping noise

I determined that the switch that controls whether the mixer is on or off is controlled by a copper bar with a contact. The contact got fused to the copper bar, possibly due to a short. Since the contact got fused to the copper bar, the circuit was always connected, so the mixer was always on. The solution was to 1) unplug the mixer, and 2) take a screw driver and gently pry the contact away from the copper bar. When the mixer is in the off position, the copper bar and contact are no longer in contact. When the mixer is on, the copper bar and contact make contact. My mixer now works just fine. Yea!
