If you disconnect the hard drive from you P.C while it is on then reconnect it that should allow your P.C to pick it up. If not then use the hardware search to find it when you have it plugged to your P.C.
If your P.C still is not able to find it then you may have a corrupt file on the hard drive which you will need a DOS program to get in an remove it.

It assumes USB type connection but I have also had firewire and e-sata issues with the cables supplied so tend to buy the ones that have the lock on them as these tend to be a little better
