Try flipping the connection at the back of the mic. If you have it hooked up upside down, the light will come on, but the mic will not be recognized either in your recording software or in system settings.
There doesn't seem to be any indicator on the cord as to which way is up. I marked mine with a marker. Problem solved!
I take it you have followed the insturctions from the Blue Microphones website they say the following
Open Apple menu -> SYSTEM PREFERENCES.
Double-click SOUND preference file.
Click INPUT tab.
Double-click the Blue mic under CHOOSE A DEVICE FOR SOUND INPUT dialog box.
Set input volume to the appropriate level.
Exit SYSTEM PREFERENCES.
Another application that I have found solves a lot of audio problems is called soundsource it's available from http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/11334/soundsource once installed you can then choose the input without going into the system prefernces each time. If you have it plugged into a USB hub try it with one of the USB ports on your computer, it could be that your USB hub does not have enough power to run it. If you have already done this it is may be a problem with the USB port swap it from the one you have it in to the other one and see if it works. Hope this helps.
