My MacBook Pro no longer reads this portable hard drive. I have tried to plug it into a different MacBook Pro and the hard drive mounted onto the this laptop. I tried to transfer the files to a different portable hard drive and ran into problems. There are a lot of files. I have tried to break the transfer process up but it still fails to fully transfer. What can I do??

At this point it sounds as though the drive itself is corrupted It is very difficult to try to get the data off once this happens and so there are data recovery places which charge into the thousands to do this.
