My Maytag model number MEY18F7E will turn on for about 10 seconds then quit and trip the breaker. It just started doing this about a week ago. Has been working fine since I purchased the home several years ago

Sounds like you have a bad compressor, something is either shorted out, or drawing too much power causing your breaker to trip.
