According to the specifications it is suppose to take up to 2gb Micro SD cards.
Therefor the only reasonable explanation will be the fault might be with the card since you had it in Nokia 3110c it might effect the compatibility with Samsung.
What I would suggest to format the SD card with a PC or card adaptor to PC and put it directly into the Samsung and test it. Also test another card that has not been used before to see if that makes a diference at all?
And if all else fails try a smaller card because allthough the specs say up to 2gb some phones just can't handle it and you might have to try a 512mb or 1gb Micro SD card.
