I'll assume this is an auto trans car. When you shift the gear selector does it feel as if it is working normally? Did this happen all of a sudden or gradually get worse?
Yes, its automatic,we cant get the shift handle to move at all.She parked in her drive way which is on a small incline, and next day it would not shift out of gear. We checked internet and did the break test and the lights work."Yes, its automatic,we cant get the shift handle to move at all.She parked in her drive way which is on a small incline, and next day it would not shift out of gear. Unless I'm mistaken, there are two separate switches on brake pedal; one for the lights and one for shift lock. If you can find it (buy a cheap shop manual at parts store?) you can unplug the wiring connector and use a paperclip to jumper the pins to see if that fixes the problem. Since you parked on a slope you set the e-brake first before putting it into park, right? Few people do this, but you should to prevent strain on the transmission park unit. If this is what is binding, you may have to rock the car back and forth a little to get it free.Unless I'm mistaken, there are two separate switches on brake pedal; one for the lights and one for shift lock.
