My monitor keeps going to a black screen a coulpe of seconds after being turned on

When i turn my monitor on, the picture only stays a couple of seconds and then goes black

Video (picture) must be constantly entering a monitor for a monitor to continue to display a picture after it self tests (goes on for a second or, two) Your monitor is fine; check it using another known good computer.
