My monitor worked great for the period of 5 years or so...then one day it doesn't want to come on, the power light would flicker...anyway I removed the panel and looked for popped capacitors and I can't see anything visably wrong with them, should I replace anyway? or how can I test these capacitors and see if they are bad? any help appreciated

Bad caps can look normal but it they can have high ESR, but you should take some voltage readings first, it should have 5vdc and 12~16vdc when the monitor is plugged in but not turn on. Post pictures of the caps also, many people told me the caps look OK until I see the pictures and they turn out to be bad. You need cap meter taht can read capacitance and ESR. Or www.digikey.com, just make sure to use caps with low ESR, 105c, high ripple current and long life rating such as PANASONIC FM or FC series. Please post back what you find. Are you sure the problem is with the capacitor...............what i think is that the problem is with the BIOS battery. Make sure that system bios battery is working well, if not replace it. This will help. Also if you are getting any beep sound after your system start then you can analyse the problem with beeps only:- * 1 short beep - Normal POST - system is OK * 2 short beeps - POST error - error code shown on screen * No beep - Power supply, system board problem, disconnected cpu, or disconnected speaker, * Continuous beep - Power supply, system board, or keyboard problem * Repeating short beeps - Power supply or system board problem or keyboard * 1 long, 1 short beep - System board problem * 1 long, 2 short beeps - Display adapter problem (MDA, CGA) * 1 long, 3 short beeps - Enhanced Graphics Adapter (EGA) * 3 long beeps - keyboard card
