My motorola rival all the sudden- the screen went black. i dunno what happened to it. when i turn it on, it makes sounds but i cant see the screen. do you know what i should do to fix it?

My phone has been doing that for about a week.. I went to the store & they told me that I would have to buy a new one for $40.. I am NOT gonna do that.. But I fixed it today(: What you have to do is put your phone on the charger.. Turn your phone off.. Then drop it on the ground.. Turn it back on & it should work.
