My new computer can not recognize my iogear GHD 335C external drive . I had it for three years, nothing happened to it . I hear a spinning disc noise . The lights on the drive are on and I can't remember if the drive made noises in the past while in use with my previous computer. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to know if the drive is broken? Thank you

Remember that this is a REAL hard drive pretty much the same as the one you use every day on your PC. What has happened, happens to most all external drives over time. The eprom fails, the cache fails, the usb to ide/sata bridge fails etc. When this happens DON'T panic, just disassemble the case, remove the hard drive and attach it directly to your PC just like any regular hard drive. You may also choose to buy a hard drive adapter kit to access it using your usb port, or you can also buy a new external hard drive case for it. All of this is assuming that the drive itself isn't already damaged.
First check the usb port of your new computer for which you are connecting the drive .The noise comes when the drive is read mby the system .Please try with different usb port and even then if it is not working there is some problem with the drive
