MY OLEVIA SNTAX 32" FLAT PANEL STOPPED WORKING ,HAVE CHANGED FOUR CAPACITORS ON POWER SUPPLY AND STILL NOT WORKING, BUT NOW THE BLUE LIGHT, THAT MEANS IT IS OFF IS WORKING AND THE BLUE SCREEN COMES ON FOR A FEW SECONDS AND GOES OFF AGAIN. I HAVE READ THAT THERE IS A FIVE-5V CAP IN SOME OTHER PLACE THAT MAY BE CAUSING THIS BUT I DO NOT KNOW WHERE TO LOOK AND IS THIS POSSIBLY THE PROBLEM? thanks ---BOB

Hello Bob. With capacitors, a domed top usually signals a surge that over heated the capacitor. In most cases capacitors will break down internally or the electrolytic will leak out and the cap will fail. There are several good capacitor testers that will test them while still in the circuit. I have a tester called a Cricket and it works great, it IDs open, shorted leaky and ever caps that are out of tolerence. Joe
Bob, I see this type of repair attempted all the time, unfortunately the success rate is very low. You see those Capacitors are only SYMPTOMS of the Real actual cause or Fault. The capacitors go faulty for two reasons, One, Overheating and two, AC Ripple from the mains. Usually there is a Fault that causes these capacitors to become faulty, if indeed they are, a faulty capacitor will be evident, as it will look discolored, have a "Domed" top and may even have residue next to it, where it has "Gassed". You FIRST must find the "Cause" of the problem or it will simply destroy the replacement parts you have installed, and may even do MORE damage as well.It is pointless replacing capacitors, willy-nilly, as this although it may FIX, it sometimes, it, is seldom the "Cause" as you have found. The thing that you MUST do is first Check to see if your Voltages are correct at the Power Supply, and follow those "Rails" out into the circuitry, and identify, the actual "Cause". To do this you MUST have a Service Manual. This will tell you Voltages, and give you troubleshooting data that you just cannot do without. It is more likely to be a faulty Voltage regulator, or a Zener Diode, or even an ordinary Diode, with IC's coming in a close second. Theses TV sets are these days more like a computer and Monitor combined these days, and are VERY complex, and it doesn't take very much to make them fault. I have been doing this for many many years and I can tell you from experience, that it WILL be cheaper and less hassle in the long run, to either A: Get a Service manual, for your exact model. or B: get it serviced by a professional.
Also there are NO 5V caps... In fact the are NO 5 Anything Caps. So, have you got that service manual yet? Also there are NO 5V caps... In fact the are NO 5 Anything Caps. So, have you got that service manual yet?
Bob, look I have been doing this for 30 years OK... I really think, no, actually, I KNOW, you are flogging a dead horse, you need to really read my original post OK. Look some sets can NOT be repaired especially after well, "Blundering" around inside like you have, sorry for sounding harsh...You have probably caused more problems, but really you are just wasting your time, you have NO service manual, No knowledge of service troubleshooting procedures, and you are chasing SYMPTOMS.. NOT the CAUSE.... Plus you cannot get parts for TV's such as this.... You need an oscilloscope to set these up, do you have one,? look I admire your spirit, but you really do not know when quit. You simply cannot say "do this" it is a VERY complicated. sophisticated piece of electronic equipment, that as I said I have worked on for over 30 years and STILL I CANNOT fix many of them as they are un-fixable for just so many many reasons and I have the experience and skills and equipment to do so.. OH and I usually have a Service Manual to... without which as I said you simply cannot do it... You will not fix it by luck, or accidentally, do so. As you have to re-set the computer up again after power is removed and you don't even have instructions for that set, and they are all different, even if you fix your symptom you STILL don't know what the actual fault is OR if the Power Supply Voltages are even correct?. One last time... Without knowing what the service manual tells you it can NOT be done.. Please listen to someone who knows better. In fact even if you took it to a professional now,, because we do not know what damage you may have done.. matters are even worse. Sorry to rag on you but.. someones gotta tell you... as I said get a service manual from somewhere,or take it to a professional, or back to the factory...Also IF there was a1-2-3 fix we would tell you OK, the fact no-one has must mean something????Bob, look I have been doing this for 30 years OK... I don't think it is a problem with the power supply board. The display coming on for a few seconds and then turning off is usually an attribute of a failed inverter board. Do you have sound when the screen goes off?
Please provide this info so that we can continue with the diagnosis. Sai.
Hello Bob. Can you please get me an image of the part that you are not able to remove? Upload a high res image to imageshack.us and get me the direct link. I would be glad to help you get it off.

Thanks for using FixYa. Assuming this to be a LCD TV from what you have described it seems the issue is with the main board we’ll need to check few things. When you open the unit up; take a look at the main board as probably the main board has gone bad. This is the other board-where all the inputs are going into. Also check the Backlight Inverter Board if the sound is coming fine from the TV however as it’s shutting off so it should be either the power board or the main board. All this is only recommended if you have electrical expertise and know how to solder/re-solder components. Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or else revert for further assistance.
This is a very common problem with LCD and also DLP within the power supply the capacitors.
Start to fail and the way you can tell is to check them visually for swelling or expanding of the top.
It will be easy to see the bad caps will not be as flat on the top as the good ones, this is the problem,
Exchange them and you will be OK. And if it doesn't work make sure the power supply is sending 24v to the inverters when you turn the set on your meter should climb but won't reach 24v because unit will shut down and if so we ruled out the inverters or back-light I seen this problem also caused by the signal board it has a power on command missing and it looks like the power supply is bad but actually it's the signal board, it may be labeled on the board a active high or low 5v which sends the command to the power supply.
There is NO 5V Cap. It's a Board that sends signal to Power Supply.

What is the exact model # please?
Thanks!
What is Model number printed on back of TV? What were the values of capacitors you have replace 200uf 10 v , 330uf 10v or 1,000uf 16v?

Surething. Check the version number. That's most important.
