My one year old LCD TV was accidentally hit on the screen with a heating blanket controller while my wife was fluffing the covers, from that point on the TV went right to standby with the red light and will only flash green for a second whether I turn it on manually or with the remote. I was told by another Fixya employee that it was the capacitors on the power supply board which frustrates me a bit because I will have to take it to a repair shop regardless now and pay the same amount even with her answer that I paid for as well. is there anyway to lessen the cost of repair by buying the necessary replacement parts myself and then having the shop install them or is this something I am able to do myself? I would very much like to save hundreds of dollars that almost match the amount I paid for the TV(got it on black Friday). Please help me, I am not very technically inclined and did not understand her answer including 1000uf 16v 2200uf 10v and 3300uf 10v are these different types of capacitors? and if so how would I know which to buy and replace, I was told the faulty ones would be vented or puffed up on top but I still wouldn't know which of those 3 listed to buy to replace them. Hello; If you hit the screen with something , you probably cracked it. The set will likely not power up with a cracked screen, This has nothing to do with bad capacitors. John
it did not damage the screen and it was not that hard of a hit, but it must have been enough to knock something loose, I just don't understand how hitting the TV could cause problems with capacitors and power supply board. the problem occurred right after she accidentally hit the TV so I am sure this had something to do with the problem, but the screen is fine with no marks or cracks at least on the surface, thanks and any other info would be much appreciated
I see so many sets with cracked screens. Some sets will still power up and the cracks light up well. If the backlights don't come on, the cracks can easily be invisible, even holding the screen in direct sunlight at different angles, cracks can still invisible. . I've seen it 100's of times. The set can easily withstand severe jarring and still work, but just don't touch the screen. It is far more fragile than ******! Power supply caps are a very high failure rate, but would not be bad with something hitting the screen. I am an Emerson service center and have not seen cap issues with this model. John
