My Pentair FNS 48 is having problems. I have a kreepy Krauly that will have strong suction when pool pump first turns on but then it weakens after about 4-5 mins and then completely stops. I've tried to open the air relief to see if there was air stuck inside and the valve opens but does not spurt water no matter how long it's been open. I tried to open it just as I turn on the pump and it does spit out air and then steady stream of water (no where as powerful a stream when I did this a few months ago). The gauge does not register at all. I ordered a new gauge, followed instructions on installation and it still does not register any psi. Can you tell me what I should be looking for? I recently took the filter apart to spray clean the grids and added 4.8lbs of D.E. Do you think maybe I damaged something inside? If so, any idea what it could be? Incidentally, we've just had a couple of windy months and the pools been heavily leafed filled

You can try to clean the impeller ether by removing the pump basket and reaching inside the hole behind it to feel for a clog. Do this with a screwdriver or needlenose plier. If it feels spongy work the clog counterclockwise and then try to pull out with the pliers. Hlso if you have had a alge problem since you cleaned the filter you may need to clean it again. Also you need to kill any alge before you run the pool.
Your air pressure is not the problem that is probally just a clog in the air bleed "T". If you pulled junk from the impeller and it is doing this still you may need to break the pump down and clean the impeller out by hand with a piece of wire. For this you should have a tank body "O" ring on hand as the old one will be hard to seal again and you will probally need the new one. Also pick up a new pump basket to keep this from happening again. Also you may need to check for a clog in your suction pipe.
