My PS3 Destroyed a DVD
I finished playing a game and ejected the DVD. Then, I inserted a Netflix DVD movie. It went in fully without a problem. Immediately after there was a loud, grinding noise. I ejected the DVD and it had a large chunk broken off along the edge. I'm pretty sure it wasn't broken when I inserted it.
So, now what do I do? I thought of testing a cheap CD to see if it would insert without a problem, but didn't want to make matters worse. Is the broken piece now at the bottom of the console case and out of the way? Rather than take it in for evaluation, should I open up the console to remove the broken piece?

The second you open that ps3, it will void the warranty completely, so I would put doing that off unless it's a last resort effort. Bringing it in MAY be your best choice.
