My punch professional home design suite platinum version 12 will not work on my laptop with windows 7. Is there a way to get it to work? I cannot afford to buy a newer version and don't believe I should have to
Computers & Internet - Punch - ! Home Design Architectural Series 18 for PC
The only way you can get this software to work on your pc is by 2 ways:
1) Easy way: Calll PUNCH the manufacturer of this software and ask them if there is a patch or new software to purchase that is compatable to winodws 7
2) Hard way: You may need to make a dual boot hard drive with 2 operating systems on one hard drive. You may need to create a partition, then install the old Windows Vista on the new partition and learn to boot one or the other os when you need to use the punch software.
Please write back which one you want to do so I can help you with either one.
This appears to be the current version. Punch! support seems to indicate that it should work. Turn off the UAC and you may have to boot in Safe Mode. (This applies to both Vista and Win7 - shut down the computer and press F8 before Windows starts to load (after the Power on Self Test, retry if you miss the timing)). It can take 15 minutes to install. Then you need to check for updates here: http://www.punchsoftware.com/sitemap.html just scroll down.
It isn't listed in the Microsoft Compatibility Center and the software goes back to Win98. The installer has changed over time so the next thing to try is installing the program in the Compatibility mode (right click on the installer exe file and choose properties, then the Compatibility tab and check the box for run the program as compatible with and an older OS in the drop-down menu, then right click again and run as administrator). A final option would be to install a virtual PC program with a valid (license) older supported OS (Win7 Pro and Ultimate have an option to run the free XP mode) and install the program into the virtual computer.
