The RIDGID Model WD06250 Wet/Dry Vac (p2.5 HP / 6 Gallon) is a durable modulated unit, designed to be quickly dis-assembled using only a hand drill with standard phillips bit. Changing worn brushes is a procedure easily accomplished by even a novice tinkerer:
1) First, unsnap and invert LID over the DRUM ASSEMBLY
2) Remove 4 screws securing the MOTOR COVER to LID: 2 at recessed at handle, 2 around perimeter of PLATE COLLECTOR.
LID should drop freely into DRUM ASSEMBLY
3) Remove 6 screws securing PLATE COLLECTOR to the LID exposing BLOWER WHEEL
4) Invert LID and detach current BLADE CONNECTORS form OFF-ON switch making note of wire guides wire attachments.
5) Secure motor fan by inserting thin wooden dowel between blades being careful NOT TO BEND.
5) Invert LID and remove BLOWER WHEEL nut.
6) Remove the two exposed screws. Lift motor free of LID.
7) Check that the block turns freely with no give at top or bottom bushings. If the brushes are bad they should appear shortened and worn allowing only intermittent or no current flow.
8) Check operability of ON-OFF switch with EC meter. If EC meter unavailable, attach unit to 120 v power supply, and CAREFULLY complete circuit of BLADE CONNECTORS in step 4. Motor should momentarily rev .
9) Brushes are easily removed using flat head screw driver.
Take them to your local Hard Wear Store and match with available stock. If not available, purchase a pair approximating their size, and file or sand to fit being careful not to detach copper wire.
