There probably is a plastic tip broken on the inside handle. The only cost effective way to fix it is to permanently lock the handle in the upright position. If you are willing to live with it that way remove the cover. Toget to inside of the iron you remove two screws holding back plate then lift the body up and slide forward being very careful because the tabs are flimsy. The two knobs on top sliders will pop off with the main body. Aligning those back up to put the body back on can be tricky.you'll see the latch with a spring and have several options to secure the handle permanently. Good Luck. By the way people on here say throw your appliance away and buy a new one. Well if it's not working why not try to fix it . You always have the option to buy a new one!
