My Shure beta 57a went dead one night and I found out there was a short. Someone soldered it back and worked after that. But it started sounding strange. Sometimes not loud enough, sometimes too bright, sometimes too muddy, and now too distorted. I can also smell a little electrical smell from the connector. What should I do besides buy a new one?

Open it back up sounds like when you resoldered the cable you may have crossed onto another track or connection and are getting cross over bleed.
