My speakers are all plugged in but there is no sound and I cannot find the device in the control panel. I just had the hard drive wiped. Is there a driver or some sort of software that I need. I think it might have came with a disk but I cannot remember and cannot find the disk. If this is the case, is there anywhere I could obtain a backup copy for free or for one time use for free?

Sounds like you lost your driver if you cleaned out your hard drive & didn't save a copy. Try going online & search for the driver & download it, I would save a copy, maybe on a disc or floppy.
