I opened the unit and discovered that a small relay (probably solid state) that controlled the toaster heating element had failed. I am a retired electrical engineer, and could probably repair the unit if I could obtain a replacement part. The manufacturer has informed me that they don't do repairs or supply parts.

This item was a gift from my daughter, and is otherwise in new condition. I don't want to junk it without making an effort to fix it.
